Today we had the great opportunity of getting a good spot in the market. Of course it cost us our sleep, but it was well worth it. The people of Mali seem to love our grains and linen! At this rate, it seems like we'll be sold out of everything by tomorrow!!
Despite not being able to get a good spot yesterday, we had the opportunity to walk around the market a bit. The people of Mali are truly talented people. To the intricate designs on their pots, to the bright dyes on their carpets, not once today did I see anything that wasn't appealing. So far, the tales of the great Mali are living up to their name.
Today marks our first full day in Mali! Boy, was I wrong about getting to sleep well. We woke up to the sounds of people rushing to get spots in the market place before the sun had even rose! We brushed them off and went back to sleep, as we were EXHAUSTED. Bad. Idea. We woke up again, hours later, to find that there was almost no open market spots, well, none that would get you seen, that's for sure. It's a disappointment to come so many miles and not be able to sell anything the first day you're here.
We have finally arrived in Mali! We've heard so many tales of how rich the people here are, and we can only hope that it's true! We've come with lots of linen and grain all the way from Egypt. It's nice to finally be able to rest the night without worrying about our goods. It's been awhile.
